All girls, regardless of where their placement fell for last year’s season, should come to their age appropriate evaluation session. Adjustments to team placement for the 2013-2014 season will be made depending on this year’s player pool.
For the 2013-2014 season, the HGH U10 level will consist of full ice travel teams playing within the South Shore Conference. Girls with birth years of 2003-2004 are eligible to participate at the U10 level. Under new rules implemented by the USA Hockey organization, all players with birth years 2005 and later must play in a cross ice format, and cannot be placed on U10 level teams that play on full ice. Because HGH does not have sufficient enrollment to support a separate U8 cross ice level, girls not eligible for HGH U10 are encouraged to take advantage of programs offered by Hingham Youth Hockey. These programs, which are designed to teach both boys and girls the fundamentals of hockey, include Cross Ice for birth years 2007-2008 and Mites for birth years 2005-2006. For more information regarding the Cross Ice and Mite programs, visit www.hyhockey.com.
U16/U19 SKILLS PROGRAM
For the 2013-2014 season, HGH will offer a fall U16/U19 skills program for high school hockey players. The fee for this program will be $300. This program is expected to run September through November and will consist of skills sessions and/or scrimmages twice per week. All players on the U16/U19 team must be age appropriate and in high school; space is limited and registrations will be accepted on a first come, first served basis until the program is full. To secure a place in this program, a non-refundable registration fee of $25 must be paid online by April 1. Full payment is due by August 1. Questions regarding this level should be directed to Christopher Gong at CGong@cetllp.com.
MIDDLE SCHOOL TEAM
Hingham Girls Hockey is pleased to announce the formation of two Middle School teams for the 2013-2014 season. The teams will participate in a new Middle School girls only league based out of the Rockland Rink. All games will be Friday nights. The teams are open to any girl who resides and/or attends middle school (grades 6-8) in Hingham. There is no requirement that a player also play on a Hingham Girls Hockey team or Hingham Youth Hockey team. It is important to note however that these teams are not designed to be a player’s only team. The Middle School teams should be considered a supplement to a player’s town or club team for girls looking to play more hockey at a highly competitive level.
The teams will be chosen after tryouts in April. The composition of the teams will be determined by age and skill level. The tuition for this team will be $600 which includes the following: 24-25 game schedule including playoffs; 2-3 pre-season practices; and a team uniform. Tryouts will be held on Monday, April 8 from 6:00-7:50 pm at Pilgrim Arena A, with an additional tryout on Wednesday, April 10 if necessary. There will be a non-refundable tryout registration fee of $25, which must be paid online prior to the April 8 evaluation session. Should your player be selected for the team, the $25 will be applied to the $600 tuition.
Players who wish to be full time goalies should attend evaluations as a goalie. Players who wish to play half time goalie should attend the first evaluation session as a skater, and will then be instructed whether to attend subsequent evaluations as a goalie or skater. Please register as a goalie when completing the online registration process.
Full and half time goaltenders at all levels will be required to pay the non-refundable registration fee before evaluations. Full time goaltenders at the U10, U12 and U14 levels will have the remainder of their tuition waived, and will be required to attend, as a goaltender, approximately 70% of her team’s games and practices. Half time goaltenders at the U10, U12 and U14 levels will pay $650 (the $75 registration fee will be deducted from this balance), and will be required to attend, as a goaltender, approximately 40% of her team's games as a goaltender. HGH reserves the right to requirement payment of full tuition from any goalie who has not demonstrated the necessary commitment to the position by midseason. Goalies enrolled in the fall skills program and on the Middle School teams will pay full tuition. HGH does not provide goalie equipment for the exclusive use of individual goaltenders. Full and half time goaltenders at all levels are expected to provide their own equipment, including leg pads, chest protector, glove, blocker, helmet, and goalie stick.
All players must have a 2013/2014 USA hockey registration number. USA Hockey online registration is open beginning onMonday, April 1, 2013. Please visit www.usahockey.com and follow the instructions on the website to obtain a USA Hockey number for your player(s). Do not attempt to register with USA Hockey prior to April 1; if you do so you will receive a 2012-2013 USA Hockey number which is not valid for the 2013-2014 season. The USA Hockey fee for 2013-2014 is $40 with an additional payment of $8 for Mass Hockey registration. HGH requires its players to be registered with USA Hockey in part because USA Hockey provides each player with insurance coverage while participating in our program (please check the USA Hockey website for details of the coverage). For liability purposes HGH cannot allow players on the ice without a valid USA Hockey number. Players will not be placed on a team roster without a USA Hockey number, and will not be notified of their placement until receipt of their USA hockey number. While individual players who have submitted their USA Hockey numbers will be notified of their team placement, complete rosters will not be posted until every player on the team has provided HGH with her 2013-2014 USA hockey number. In order to expedite this process and out of consideration for all players, please email your player’s USA Hockey registration confirmation number to HGH02043@gmail.com as soon as possible after April 1.
